NOCTURNAL SURRENDER TEASER EXCERPT:

After hitting the button for the elevator, he raised her delicate hand to his lips and pressed a kiss against her soft skin. “I’m sorry. I didn’t even ask how your evening was. I hope work went well—but not too well.”

Why did I say that?

The words had left his mouth without thought, and sure as hell without his permission. This situation was getting out of control. All of the sudden he’d become territorial with her, just like he had with Elise. But this was far too soon.

Nicole grinned. “Did I hear a hint of jealousy?”

Bastian averted her gaze. What was taking that fucking elevator so long? When she cleared her throat, he snapped his attention back to her. “I uh… Jealousy? No. Why would I be jealous? I am perfectly secure in our relationship no matter what you do for a living.”

Shifting, he punched the button a few more times, just to be sure the thing was working properly.

She caressed his cheek, silently urging him to look at her. When he did, her smile was wide and her eyes sparkled.

She lowered her hands. “So we’re in a relationship?”

Bastian scrubbed his face, searching for something to say.

How the hell did I get myself into this?

It wasn’t that he didn’t want a relationship with her, but his life, his entire existence made the situation volatile. His time with Elise had proven--

“It’s okay. I’m not ready for anything that serious yet either.” She giggled. “I just wanted to see your reaction.”

He breathed deep in relief, but opened himself to feel her emotions to ensure she wasn’t saying what she thought he wanted to hear. Sure enough, she radiated lighthearted joy, which stirred his desires for his angel.

The elevator finally opened, and once inside, he gave her a little payback for her joke.

Bastian backed her into the wall, grabbed her hands, and put them over her head, clasping both in one of his. Her purse fell to the floor, and he enveloped her mouth with his.

He explored her receptive body with his free hand, pulling up her leg and sliding his fingers under her skirt. He teased her by tugging at her panties. Slowly, he slipped a finger inside them, but only lightly brushed over her clit.

She moaned and tried to press against his finger, but he withdrew and broke away from their kiss.

“Nope. You can’t have it.” He cocked an eyebrow and smirked, hoping his intense gaze burned into her. “You’re going to pay for messing with me. I may not give you anything tonight. Just work you into a frenzy and leave you wet and needy. Begging.”

Nicole laughed so hard she gasped for breath. He released her hands, and she fanned herself as her eyes watered.

What the fuck is so funny? “You know, that wasn’t the reaction I was hoping for.”

Heat washed over him, creeping up his neck and into his face. The startling sensation took him a minute to identify. Embarrassment. An emotion he hadn’t known in centuries.

He had tried to be sexy and drive her crazy, and she had laughed in his face.

The elevator stopped and the doors opened, thankfully to an empty hallway. She grabbed her purse then led him to her apartment. The hall seemed narrower than he remembered. And hotter. Hell, the walls almost closed in on him. When she slammed the door shut, he blinked a few times and snapped out of his shock, only then realizing they had made it to her apartment.

She immediately dropped her purse and slipped her arms around his neck. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to laugh. It’s just…I’ve been reading this book Ginger gave me and… Well, you reminded me of the guy in it. He wanted to punish the woman for behaving badly and…” Laughter erupted from her lips again.

Should I be flattered or humiliated? “If you can calm yourself long enough, can you at least tell me if that’s a good thing or bad?” He reached to remove himself from her embrace, but when she stopped laughing abruptly, he rested his arms at his sides.

Had his tone been too harsh? He hadn’t meant to be so upset, but her laughter was a kick in the balls to his ego. Did she think his attempts at seduction so comical, or worse, lackluster?

She frowned and her brows furrowed. If he wasn’t mistaken, her lip might have quivered. Now, embarrassment far worse than his own rolled off her in waves.

Her palms slid down to rest on his chest. “It’s just…I’ve never read anything like that before and…I liked it. A lot. The whole way, if you know what I mean.” She lowered her head.

He had no idea what she meant, and although it went against his better judgment, he delved into her mind…and then bit back laughter. “So you uh…pleasured yourself without me? Hmph. You have been a very naughty girl. What are we going to do about this?”

Nicole peered up at him and whispered, “Maybe you should punish me.”

With the scent of his spicy cologne, his strong hand cradling hers, and his muscular body so close, longing flared to life deep in her core. He was too damn sexy for her own good.

A slight smile curved his lips as his features softened. When he slid his hand up her arm, she instinctively angled her body toward his, their knees almost touching. His fingertips teased her skin, and a shiver raced over her. She didn’t care if he sensed what he did to her, how her body automatically reacted to his presence, his caress.

As his hand glided higher, his smile grew wider. Gently, he continued on until his palm cradled her cheek. She leaned into his touch, and every inch of her body reacted. A tingling sensation swept over her, demanding she ignore the nagging voice in her head telling her this was wrong.

She needed this.

When his hand slid behind her head, his fingers threading tantalizingly through her hair, she shuddered.

She wanted him.

A glance down at his tight shirt reminded her of the hard definition of his abs. Lower and…the distracting bulge was now much larger.

No. She’d been used by a vampire before. She wouldn’t let it happen twice.

Numbness overtook her again. Her heart closed off, back into its safety zone. The walls she’d built over the years to protect herself slammed into place.

She jumped up and out of Johnathan’s grasp. “I need to get some sleep. You should go now.”

He sat there looking confused, and a little hurt. But she had to be strong. She couldn’t let it affect her.

Rubbing his hands over his jeans, he leaned forward and let out what sounded like a growl.

Great, piss off another vampire. I’m really making friends tonight.

In a flash, he stood and moved to within an inch of her. Towering over her. Before she knew it, her back was against the house, his body pressed to hers. Strong hands gripped her hips as he ground his erection into her belly.

Once more, her body reacted of its own accord, and her walls crashed down around her. She stood on her toes to feel his erection exactly where she wanted it.

A moan escaped her lips. This shouldn’t be happening. She grabbed his arms with every intention of removing them, but his muscles flexed under her fingers. There was no hope of making him do anything he didn’t choose.

Instead of trying to move him, her hands crept upward until they rested on his biceps. Rock hard, like his cock.

As if on cue, he pressed into her again. This time, she was certain he growled.

Stephanie arched into him, gripping his arms with all her strength. His hands slipped around to cup her ass, pulling her in tighter—as if it were possible.

Another moan and they fell into a sensual cadence. Slow, yet forceful. Thrust after thrust. Deep inside, her muscles clenched with need.

Johnathan licked his lips and exposed his fangs as his mouth closed in on hers. Her eyes locked with his, and she moved her arms to encircle his neck and pull him to her.

Grabbing a handful of his hair, she held on as her body trembled. Ripples of pleasure cascaded over her, rhythmic spasms tearing through her core. She whimpered into his mouth. Clutched him tighter. Ground into him deeper.

She was unable to look at him. How could she have let this happen? It went against everything she’d been taught. Everything she believed in. The rules were there to keep clients safe. They were vulnerable with their therapists. Too many personal details shared. She knew better. But she had allowed her loneliness and need to control her.

His fingers tugged at her chin, urging her to face him. “Talk to me, Stephanie. What’s wrong?” His eyes were blue again, though glowing. Haunting.

“I…I can’t believe I let this happen.” Lowering her gaze, she shook her head. “It’s wrong.”

She had committed the worst act imaginable with a client. She’d allowed her issues and needs to come first and had been sexually intimate with him. It didn’t matter that their clothes were still on. An orgasm was an orgasm. There was no way around it.

I’m an awful person.

He stroked her cheek with his thumb. “In case you didn’t notice, I was the one who started this. I never expected it to go as far as it did, but I’m not sorry. It’s been decades since I let anyone in. I needed this.”

“That’s the problem. You let me in as your therapist. It makes you feel closer to me than you are. That’s why we aren’t allowed to get involved with clients. What you’re feeling…it isn’t what you think it is.”

“And just exactly what do I think it is?”

“I don’t know. A connection. Trust in someone. Being open and vulnerable. And yes, those are probably all there, but not for the reasons that should have led to what we just did. They’re there because you’re supposed to feel safe and supported with me. That’s my job. But it’s not a personal connection. It’s not—”

A blazing kiss scorched her lips, and she let out a soft moan into his mouth.

Then he pulled away. “No, it’s not personal at all. I suppose you react like that with all your clients.”

Smug asshole. “Stop it. We can’t keep doing this. I—”

Another kiss. He grabbed her, holding her tightly, his strong arms wrapped around her like a security blanket. Warmth and comfort spread through her as if she belonged in those arms. She melted into him, into the desperation of his embrace. The hunger of his kiss.
